31 Days of Tackling the To-Do List: Homeschool Room, Part 2

Two more corners of the new homeschool room to share today…

We found this hutch on Craigslist years ago, and it has served us well. I tried to reorganize the shelves to have more of a math/science/nature study focus, with some Lego and Perplexus balls thrown in for fun. 😉 The second shelf from the top has our microscope and accessories, the old Fabre books (Thanks Mom and Dad!) and some field guides. The next shelf has some Life of Fred books which we used a few years ago and may again, and a few other math books. No one has used the Euclid yet, but Brandy’s recent post had me thinking about it again. 🙂 In the middle is a dish my sister gave me which I thought would be a good place to display shells, rocks and other things the kids might collect outdoors. The leaf paper is something little R got in Sunday School to use for a leaf rubbing, but I thought it made a pretty display. Then there’s some more nature and science books. The last shelf holds more science books: Apologia, Magic School Bus, One Small Square, and many others. Oh, and a basket for D’s stuff – he can put his Lego board on top to keep it away from little hands.

The top two drawers have some old Sonlight science kits, math manipulatives and other things which I need to go through sometime soon. The bottom drawer has preschool activities (puzzles, etc.) and could probably also use a sorting.

We brought this shelf down from our bedroom and it fits better here. There are some story and song CDs on the first and part of the second shelf, a few instructional videos and then lots of books. Behind the doors are early readers and some children’s literature. I was able to bring up some of the books I had stored in the basement, though there’s still a lot down there. We are blessed with books! 🙂
