Morning Time Plans

I procrastinated until Saturday, but I finally got our modified AO weekly schedules and Morning Time plans for the next term done. And I’m actually kind of excited about it! 😉 We may switch things up at bit later in the term, but here’s the plan for now.

Daily (Mon.-Thurs.)

Hymn: He Who Would Valiant Be (John Bunyan’s Pilgrim Hymn) – we are doing the livelier, more familiar (at least to me) tune here, not the one in our hymnbook. Looking forward to this one!

Devotional: Continuing to read through Dawn’s thoughtful I Am, I Can, I Ought, I Will: Charlotte Mason’s Motto Explained for Upper Elementary Students.

Prayer: using our Prayer Box.

Scripture Memorization: James 3 (because I think all of us need to meditate on this one!)

Poetry Memorization: On His Blindness by John Milton: “They also serve who only stand and wait.”

We will also review a couple of past memory work selections, listen to a track from Wee Sing Fun & Folk, read the next poem in Favorite Poems Old and New, and share a joke. 🙂 And we’ll alternate between Mad Libs and Grammar Island (with D and E) for grammar.

Our Morning Time basket. Each of the older kids has a folder which holds the hymn, Scripture passage and poem we are currently working on. I have my own binder with both current and past memory work and the MT schedule.

Weekly

Monday: Trial and Triumph (church history)

Tuesday: Bard of Avon: The Story of William Shakespeare (one of Mr. E’s AO books this term)

Wednesday: I chose Much Ado about Nothing – AO schedules it later this year, but I’m not ready for Othello yet. I like to alternate serious and lighter plays, and we just did Macbeth. 😯 We’ll read the retelling in Tina Packer’s Tales from Shakespeare, and then probably listen to the Arkangel recording. I need to pre-read it and pick out our memory work, which we’ll start when our poem is well underway.

Thursday: We will be studying the art of Vincent Van Gogh using the lovely and convenient Picture Study Portfolio from Simply Charlotte Mason.

Friday: We’ll read a small section from the Birds chapter of the Handbook of Nature Study and (weather-permitting) do an entry in our nature journals. This may end up being in the afternoon, depending on how our Fridays go…

And we’ll also try to listen to some Brahms this term during car rides, supper, etc. 🙂
