Seven Quick Takes: Books, Beautiful Books

{1}
Books for the upcoming school year have been trickling, and sometimes pouring, in over the last few months. Here is what I found on my doorstep one grey, rainy day a few weeks ago.
It wasn’t only books, but it sure made my day!

One of the above packages contained mylar covers for dust jackets. The jacket on my Book of Marvels is falling apart, but I love it and didn’t want to see it go. Hopefully this cover can hold it together for a while, though I probably need to invest in some book repair tape as well.

I didn’t find much during my last trip to Half Price Books, but I did come across this beauty, scheduled in AO Year 5, in the collectibles section. 🙂

Two more lovely covers…

I think the award for most intimidating book on the Year 8 list is a toss up between Utopia…
I admit to being a bit surprised when AO scheduled Hawking in their new Year 8 Science, but I agree with them that our students need to be familiar with the ideas of those who have great influence in the scientific world. Hubby has agreed to read it along with Miss A and I, so we can discuss it together.

And here’s a not-so-beautiful book, thought I’m sure it will be very interesting if I can bring myself to read it along with Miss A. 😉
Sadly, the bookseller misrepresented this copy as “Like New”. It has a tear on the cover and is heavily highlighted. Hopefully they will cover a return or refund.

Last year, when I was planning for Year 7, I noticed that my parents had an old hardback copy of The Life of the Spider by Jean Henri Fabre on their shelf, along with six more of his books. They had been sitting there since being culled from the library discards years ago, but I had not paid much attention to them until I started using Ambleside. During our latest visit, I asked my mom if I could have the whole set, and she said I could!
