Seven Quick Takes: Ice Cream, Nature, and Funny Narrations

Seven Quick Takes

{1}

On Sunday, we had the great blessing of seeing Miss A become a communicant member of our church. As Presbyterians (OPC), we believe our baptized children are members of the church, but they do not take the Lord’s Supper until they profess their faith in Christ and take vows of membership. This is something that she has wanted to do for a while now (she had to go through Inquirer’s Class first), and we are so grateful to see the Lord’s work in her life.

As an alternative to art class, our little group of homeschool families (those who were able) met at a local park a couple of weeks ago. We brought our nature journals, and the kids enjoyed the “natural play area” and the riverside. Some of them wandered up the adjoining creek and got wet, but they had a great time. 🙂

We had so much fun that we decided to meet there again today, although only two families could make it this week. Next time, shorts (or perhaps bathing suits) and sandals will be in order, ahem. 😉

A little levity: Last week Mr. D was narrating the Echo myth from Bulfinch’s Age of Fable. He ended by saying, “She lives in caves and ravines – but these days she also lives in public bathrooms…” He said it with such a straight face, and I just laughed so hard that the poor guy started apologizing. I had to assure him it was a good thing. 😀

Miss A and Mr. D made a chocolate cake with purple (!) icing on Mother’s Day, and hubby took a picture of the kids and I. It’s fuzzy and L wasn’t looking at the camera and I wasn’t sitting very ladylike, but oh well! 😉

Hubby and I marked our 15th wedding anniversary yesterday, and although we’ve planned something special next week, we wanted celebrate a little on the day. So after supper, we all went out to a local ice cream place for a treat. Little R trying to eat a cone was a hoot, except that he took a looong time to get through it. 🙂
