The Simple Woman’s Daybook for June 6, 2016

For Today

Looking out my window…a breezy but lovely evening.
I am thinking…about VBS plans for tomorrow.
I am thankful…for a restful vacation.
One of my favorite things…evening walks.
I am wearing…tee and capri pants.
I am creating…plans!
I am reading…Curtain by Agatha Christie (audiobook)
I am hoping…for a good week of VBS
I am learning…that it’s OK to assign summer reading – which is encouraging both as a year-round homeschooler and a mom of a child who would otherwise not read much more that Calvin and Hobbes. 😉
In my kitchen…spaghetti and meatballs – again. It’s a good, quick meal. 🙂
In the school room…just reading and piano this week, but I love that we can keep something going. It helps us not lose the routine altogether.
In my garden…lettuce and lots of weeds.
Post Script
I am looking forward to Mystie’s Homeschool Audit workshop on Friday! It should be a great help as I plan our next school year. 🙂
Shared Quote
“The true reader reads every work seriously in the sense that he reads it whole-heartedly, makes himself as receptive as he can. But for that very reason he cannot possibly read every work solemnly or gravely. For he will read ‘in the same spirit that the author writ.’…He will never make the error of trying to munch whipped cream as if it were venison.” C.S. Lewis, An Experiment in Criticism

A moment from my day…

Closing Notes: Mr. D and I are currently reading Kim by Rudyard Kipling, so I really appreciated Carol’s notes and links for the book. Her Weekly Review also has a neat video link for some musical fun and learning.

  1. I am visiting from the daybook. This is my first visit to your blog.

Although my homeschooling days ended in 2010 with my final child’s graduation from high school, I was a year-round homeschooler too. I definitely schooled through the summer and then took my long break (6 weeks) in September and October. The beauty of homeschooling is that each family can do what works best for them.

Spaghetti and meatballs sounds delish—I think I’m coming to your house for dinner.

    Blessings,
