The Simple Woman’s Daybook for July 6, 2020

For Today
Looking out my window…it was a hot one today!
I am thinking…it’s the last week of homeschool for my daughter…
I am thankful…for the young woman she has become. ♥
One of my favorite things…our shady yard, with perfect tree placement for a hammock. 😉
I am creating…well, I designed Aria’s high school diploma at homeschooldiploma.com and it’s in the mail!
I am wearing…light purple tee and khaki capri pants.
I am watching…Hamilton on Disney+ (hubby’s Christmas gift) with Aria. I don’t pretend to understand it all, but King George III’s scene was hilarious! Hope to finish it later this week…
I am hoping…the senior photo shoot later this week goes well (!)
I am learning…how to be the the mom of an adult child (that’s an oxymoron!) at the same time she is learning how to be an adult. She’s got a lot of exciting and stretching things going on right now!
In my kitchen…salmon burgers and veggies for dinner.
In the school room…We watched the last of Bernstein’s Young People’s Concerts over the past two Mondays: (most of) Holst’s Planets and a strange and apparently unrehearsed performance of a piece about Pluto. 😀 We skipped over a couple of the concerts, although I’m having Aria watch the Richard Strauss one. It goes along with the history of philosophy she’s been studying this year, but might be a bit much for the younger kids, as it’s a piece based on one of Nietzsche’s books. (Nota bene: these DVD’s seem to go up and down in price – I’m pretty sure I didn’t pay the current price of $150!)
In my garden…the pole beans are blossoming, Aria’s calendula is blooming, the pollinator-attracting seeds I planted are growing, and we seem to have a couple of random tomato plants. But the lettuce has seen better days – too hot for it now.
Post Script
The poetry episode of The Literary Life podcast was great, especially hearing one of Thomas Bank’s own poems, Adam in Exile (beautiful!).
Shared Quote
“If a defining characteristic of the modern world is disorder, then the most fundamental act of resistance is to establish order.” Rod Dreher, The Benedict Option (I just finished it yesterday – not a happy read, but he addresses things all Christians need to be thinking about.)
A moment from my day…actually the other day – a favorite photo from a hike at a favorite place we hadn’t been to in years.
Closing Notes
I hope your summer is delightful despite this difficult year we are living through!
