During the month of October, I’m posting brief reviews of some of my favorite books from the past couple of years: those that really touched my heart, gave me a new perspective, taught me something, or were just plain fun. Hopefully you will be inspired to add something to your to-read list. 🙂
When I need a good laugh, I pick up another Jeeves and Wooster book – actually audiobook, because I love Jonathan Cecil’s spot-on rendering of both Bertie and his valet. So far, my favorite one has been Very Good, Jeeves, but maybe that’s because it was the first one I listened to. I’ve found it good to spread out my listening because Wodehouse does seem to recycle his plots a bit – the bully trying to reduce Bertie to a pulp is a recurring theme, as is his finding himself unwillingly engaged to someone. 😉 Other Wodehouse books I’ve listened to are The Code of the Woosters: Jeeves to the Rescue, Jeeves and the Feudal Spirit, and A Few Quick Ones (a collection of short stories, not all about Jeeves and Wooster, and a bit repetitive). I got The Inimitable Jeeves with my Audible credit earlier this week – so far, so good. 🙂
