31 Days of Great Reads – Bloodlines: Race, Cross, and the Christian by John Piper

During the month of October, I’m posting brief reviews of some of my favorite books from the past couple of years: those that really touched my heart, gave me a new perspective, taught me something, or were just plain fun. Hopefully you will be inspired to add something to your to-read list. 🙂

I read and reviewed Bloodlines in 2012:
Piper shows the power of the Gospel to bring true racial and ethnic harmony. He is honest about the racism he formerly harbored in his own heart and about the difficulties that pursuing racial and ethnic harmony brings. I would highly recommend this book. It is a subject that needs to be preached on and honestly and openly confronted and discussed more in the church. It was also good to read it in conjunction with To Kill a Mockingbird, the Bonhoeffer bio and Jimmy Carter’s memoir – lots of connections and food for thought.
