31 Days of Great Reads – One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp

During the month of October, I’m posting brief reviews of some of my favorite books from the past couple of years: those that really touched my heart, gave me a new perspective, taught me something, or were just plain fun. Hopefully you will be inspired to add something to your to-read list. 🙂

My review of One Thousand Gifts from January 2012:
This was by no means an easy book to read – I almost gave up after the first, gut-wrenching chapter. Her writing style is unique, but I found I warmed to it, and was enthralled by the word pictures she painted (although I wasn’t quite sure what to think of the last chapter – I understand her point, but…).  I do not necessarily agree with everything she put forth, but her journey from fear to joy through gratitude was so encouraging. Many of the fears and struggles she described mirror my own, and I very much appreciated her honesty in sharing them, and for pointing us to Christ and His love and grace.
