A few years ago when we had a wall put up to make the upstairs loft area into a bedroom, we were left with a fairly wide hallway which I thought would be a great place for some shelves. For a while we had the changing table there, as well as a shelf we found at a yard sale when Miss A was little. It was functional as a bookshelf, but I wanted some toy storage as well (and I will admit that I also wanted something a bit nicer looking 😉 ).
I saw this idea on Pinterest and wanted to do something similar with books on top and toys in bins on the bottom. After looking into the options, I decided on eco-friendly, non-toxic storage cubes from Way Basics. It was a bit tedious to put them all together, but they seem to be pretty sturdy.
The storage bins were where I got a bit creative. Before getting the cubes, I measured and found that the square diaper boxes we’d been buying would fit, and they had a built-in “hand hole”, for lack of a better term. If I’d had the idea sooner, or been more patient, I could have saved enough boxes over several months, but as it is, we’re set for size 5 diapers for a while. 😛 I did discover that it is important to buy all the same brand and diaper size, or the boxes may not be the same size and have the “hand hole” in the same place. I traced and cut out a piece of scrapbook paper from my sorely neglected stash to fit the end of each box, and attached it using adhesive tabs so the paper stayed flat.
It’s been over a month now, and so far, so good! I probably should stash a diaper box or two away somewhere in case one gets damaged, and I do have extra of the scrapbook paper. One of my favorite things about it is a dedicated bin for Mr. Potato Head stuff – no more mixing in with everything else – maybe. And I like that I can put L’s quiet time CD’s neatly on top, along with oversize toys and books. 🙂
Looks wonderful! I love the creativity of the diaper boxes 🙂
I love your diaper box solution! How great that they fit the space so perfectly. 🙂
Great ideas!!
Thank you 🙂
