Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day

I enjoy making St. Patrick’s Day a special day for our family, not only because of my husband’s Irish roots, but because I am inspired by the faith and love of St. Patrick himself. Each year is a bit different, but making some Irish food is definitely a must! 🙂

This morning, I made Irish Pancakes to start our day – the kids love them. During Morning time, the older kids and I tried our hands at drawing shamrocks using the tutorial in A Seasonal Start in Spring Chalk Pastels.

We also read Patrick: Patron Saint of Ireland during Morning Time, and later listened (and danced) to some Irish music on Pandora.

Little L was the best dressed – see the shamrock? 😀

Mr. D made a chocolate cake, and Mr. E helped a little with the icing (which didn’t turn out great because the butter wasn’t soft enough – oops). Miss A made soda bread to go along with the bangers and mash and peas.

I enjoyed listening to the Circe Institute podcast about St. Patrick today, and want to read Jonathan Rogers’ bio of him someday. I read The Confession of St. Patrick a couple of years ago, and I think I’ve shared this quote, but wanted to share it again. 🙂

…but this I know most certainly, that – especially before I was humbled – I was like a stone that lay in the deep mire, and He who alone is powerful came and, in his own mercy, raised me and lifted me up, and placed me on the top of the wall, from which it is my duty to cry aloud, in order to make some recompense to the Lord for all the benefits temporal and eternal, beyond man’s conception, which he has bestowed upon me.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
