Fables and Founding Fathers: 2016-2017 4th Grade Plans

I was going to post preschool/kindergarten plans today, but needed a bit more time, so instead I’ll share what Mr. E will be up to in the coming school year. 🙂

fff1

Bible: He will finish The Child’s Story Bible by Catherine Vos, then start reading his  ESV Bible through from the beginning.

History and Geography: He’ll do the AmblesideOnline Year 4 plans as written for these subjects, learning about the Colonial and Revolutionary War periods.

Literature: The only thing I’m changing from AO’s plans here is that I’m putting off Bulfinch until Year 5, and will schedule D’Aulaire’s Norse Myths and Greek Myths instead (I did this for Mr. D as well).

Math: He’s currently working through Teaching Textbooks Math 4, and will continue on to Math 5 when he’s done.

Science: He’ll read The Story Book of Science as scheduled in AO Year 4, but I’m dropping Madam How and Lady Why. Instead, hubby will do The Elements by Ellen McHenry with him – it’s a fun intro to chemistry. 🙂 He’s also learning about robotics (and animals!) with his First Lego League group this fall.

Writing: I plan to start Writing & Rhetoric Book 1: Fable with him, but that will probably wait until Term 2. Until then, he’ll continue to practice his cursive by copying out the Westminster Shorter Catechism, and learn how to type with Dance Mat Typing.

French: Well, he was going to do Duolingo (which is free), but I just found out that The Learnables: French Level 2 is out for the computer! We could probably do this all together during Morning Time! I have fond memories of doing The Learnables as a girl, when it was a book and cassette tape, and the kids enjoyed Level 1. It’s pricey, though, so I’ll have to talk to hubby…

Fine Arts: He will continue taking piano lessons and practicing daily. He’ll also be joining some friends for art again starting in a couple of weeks. 🙂

Physical Education: Mr. E is excited to have a friend on his soccer team this fall and practices have started already! He’ll also continue to take parkour classes.
