Simplified Organization Progress Report

I’m slowly going through Module 2 of the Simplified Organization Course. Mostly I’ve been working on setting up a command center, using a corner of the counter and the cupboard above.

I found some pretty holders at Meijer and Amazon. (I think they look even nicer in my kitchen painted green, but I’m not sure how to paint on epoxy…) I know it doesn’t have to be pretty to be functional, but pretty lifts my spirits and makes the space more pleasant to use. I’m also starting to see things I already have in a new light. The mug with my name on it has been languishing in the back of the cupboard for years. I’ve had it since I was a girl, didn’t use it to drink from (small and thought it might contain lead), but kept it because it was pretty. I discovered it’s the perfect size to hold my phone and ear buds! The heart-shaped container is good for nail clippers, pacifiers, etc.

Yes, those are soup mugs. 🙂 We almost never use them, especially now that we are more than four, but they were a wedding gift and hard to get rid of. I was trying to find a solution for our cord and ear bud problem, and thought these might work to keep them separate and untangled. I’ve got more to figure out, especially how to deal efficiently with incoming mail…

Hubby and I also set up Google Calendar. Now to get in the habit of entering everything in and checking it daily!

  1. I love your command center areas and how you are using special items unconventionally! I always like seeing more examples of "real life" organized areas instead of just the photo-perfect ones we generally see online. 🙂
