Remember that ambitious list I posted last December of all those books I wanted to read for the 2016 Back to the Classics Challenge? Well, I only managed to finish the minimum six books required to enter the drawing, and only one of those was a book actually on my original list! A few others were started but never finished (sigh). And yet, I’m going to try all over again in 2017 – more on that Thursday. 😉 Here’s what I did finish (links are to my Goodreads reviews):
- A 19th Century Classic: The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
- A 20th Century Classic: Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis
- A classic by a woman author: Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
- An adventure classic: The Scarlet Pimpernel by Emmuska Orczy
- A fantasy, science fiction or dystopian classic: children’s classics were allowed here, so I’m counting Half Magic by Edward Eager
- A classic detective novel: Hercule Poirot’s Christmas by Agatha Christie
