Favorite Christmas Carols: Wexford Carol

John Rutter’s arrangement is my favorite version of this lovely Irish carol – his harmonization is just exquisite. This video seems to be quite recent, as it was only posted a few days ago and the choir is arranged to be “socially distant”. It makes me sad that they have to do that, but happy that they can still find a way to all sing together in the same place.

Good people all, this Christmas time,
Consider well and bear in mind
What our good God for us has done
In sending His beloved Son.

And a sentimental bonus: I used to listen to this instrumental version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas every year when I was a girl while I wrapped presents. It was on a cassette tape of seemingly random Christmas music my dad (or someone) had dubbed, and this song and Silver Bells were my favorites. I haven’t been able to find that version of Silver Bells, but I came across this on Amazon Music last year (which was also my first year to ever spend away from my family in Canada, so perhaps the nostalgia value was increased. 😉 ). I don’t care for either the original lyrics or the revised ones: the original are too sad (they sound like they were written in 2020!), and the revised are too sappy. But l still love this rendition by Ronnie Aldrich and his 2 pianos. 🙂
