L’s birthday was actually on Friday, but with A and D at camp, we put off having the cake until they came home on Saturday. Then Saturday afternoon he came down with a fever. So the cake was delayed until today, when we thought he was recovering. He ate supper and we brought out the cake and took photos, but when I cut it and gave him a piece, he wouldn’t touch it. He played outside briefly and then just lay around for the rest of the evening until bedtime. 🙁 Poor little guy – hopefully he’ll soon get over whatever this is.
This was a fun cake to make, and good for those who, like me, are a little challenged in the cake-decorating department. It doesn’t matter if you get a bit of cake mixed in with the icing, and you don’t have to keep the icing off the edge of the cake board – a little messiness adds to the effect. 🙂 I got the decorating inspiration, and the icing and chocolate cake recipe here. The chocolate icing was really yummy. I didn’t do the cool black and yellow cake like she did, though – too much work for me. 😉
Very impressive, that cake is so cute!
Hope he starts feeling better soon.
Followed over here from Afterthoughts. I just wanted to say that I hope your boys is feeling better and how much I love "3":) Enjoy!!
