The Simple Woman’s Daybook for July 16, 2018

For Today
Looking out my window…dark, but there was a beautiful sunset a while ago.
I am thinking…about VBS, school plans, how many things I need to do this week…
I am thankful…Mr. D’s eighth grade plans are coming together, and they’re looking good – two more books ordered today!
One of my favorite things…meeting other homeschooling moms – which might sound strange if you know me, because I am shy. I met several at a local Charlotte Mason retreat last Thursday and Friday. Even though it’s hard for me to speak up and introduce myself, if I can get past that (it helps if the other person initiates 😉 ), it’s usually great.
I am creating…VBS plans
I am wearing…purple tee and denim capri pants
I watched…Three Smart Girls with hubby last week – funny and sweet. 🙂
I am hoping…to get through the next two busy weeks!
I am learning…about World War I – pre-reading Story of the World Volume 4 for Mr. E, and Testament of Youth for Miss A.
In my kitchen…pierogies, bratwurst, and strawberries with whipped cream for supper.
In the school room…Term 3 exams, piano, Morning Time and reading this week. We finished reading/listening to A Midsummer Night’s Dream today. It’s Mr. L’s last week of the term, and hopefully the older three will finish their Term 3 readings next week (they were at camp last week). Then summer break!
In my garden…we’ve eaten some of the pole beans, and made a bit of pesto from the basil…
Post Script
I love listening to John Hodges talk about music, and this  Circe podcast on pop music was no exception.

Why, I wonder, do people who at one time or another have all been young themselves, and who ought therefore to know better, generalise so suavely and so mendaciously about the golden hours of youth – that period of life when every sorrow seems permanent, and every set-back insuperable?  Vera Brittain, Testament of Youth
A moment from my day…actually last week at the nature preserve. The new trail trail is fun, if rather mosquito-y.

Closing Notes

Thanks for reading. 🙂 Here’s hoping August will be more conducive to blogging!
