The Simple Woman’s Daybook for May 2, 2016

For Today

simple-woman-daybook-large

Looking out my window…overcast all day – thunderstorms last night.
I am thinking…about the blessings of limitations (see Closing Notes below).
I am thankful…for a good dental appointment for me and outdoor fun for the kids this afternoon.
One of my favorite things…clean teeth! ๐Ÿ˜€
I am wearing…blue/white floral top, sweater, jeans.
I am creating…hopefully a hole in the to-be-folded pile tonight.
I am reading…finished The Confident Homeschooler by Pam Barnhill (short and free!) this morning. Starting The Unhurried Homeschooler by ย soon.
I am hoping…to do lots of reading this week. ๐Ÿ™‚
I am learning…about teaching Shakespeare tonight!
In my kitchen…we had takeout tonight, but it does need cleaning…
In the school room…we read about the persecution of Christians during the Boxer Rebellion this morning. ๐Ÿ™
In my garden…lettuce is planted!
Post Script
ย More encouragement from Pam Barnhill: Why do you do what you do, homeschool mom?
Shared Quote
A favorite from G.K. Chesterton: “How can it be a large career to tell other people’s children about the Rule of Three, and a small career to tell one’s own children about the universe? How can it be broad to be the same thing to everyone, and narrow to be everything to someone? No; a woman’s function is laborious, but because it is gigantic, not because it is minute. I will pity Mrs. Jones for the hugeness of her task; I will never pity her for its smallness.โ€
A moment from my day…

Closing Notes:
Brandy at Afterthoughts has been writing a series about being a low-energy homeschool mom. Her post today, The Poetry of Limitations, was so encouraging to me. I don’t know if I qualify as a low-energy homeschool mom, but I am definitely an easily-overwhelmed homeschool mom (my unofficial motto is KISS – Keep It Simple, Stupid ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), and I have other limitations as well, especially as regards driving (can’t do big highways, for one). Sometimes I can get depressed thinking about all the things my kids are missing out on, so it was so good to be reminded of the “blessings in disguise” that limitations can be.
