Spring & Summer 2018 Morning Time Plans

We’re not starting Morning Time up again until a couple of weeks into the term, and I’m expecting interruptions with VBS and other summer stuff, so I’m keeping it simple (not really much different than usual, I guess 😛 ), and hoping to finish up a few things we’ve had going for a while.

Bible & Catechism: We’re getting near the end of Comforting Hearts, Teaching Minds – week 45 of 52! We’ll learn a short Bible passage – Psalm 133 – and try to review at least one other passage each day.

Poetry: I discovered that AmblesideOnline has a collection of poems for each month. They’re meant as an option for Year 1, but I think we’ll all enjoy them – many of the May poems were new to me! We’ll memorize Sea Fever by John Masefield together.

Shakespeare: We have not read through the whole of A Midsummer Night’s Dream together, so we’ll do that this term. We’ll review the “I know a bank…” passage we memorized a few years ago (I’ll help Mr. L memorize it during our one-on-one time), and learn a couple more short passages, like “I go, I go, look how I go, Swifter than arrow from the Tartar’s bow” (Ken Ludwig recommends this as one to quote to your kids when you’re in a hurry 😉 ).

Music Appreciation & Composer Study: We should finish up the first set of Leonard Bernstein’s Young People’s Concerts this term, and I have the second one waiting. 🙂 I think we’ll listen to Mendelssohn’s music, as he wrote some incidental music for A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I may fit much of our composer study into car trips, etc. with the Classics for Kids podcast and Amazon Music.

Geography: I’m hoping we might also finish up A Child’s Geography: Explore the Classical World this term – we’re traveling through Italy now and it’s been a lovely journey!

Artist Study: I’ve got the Simply Charlotte Mason Artist Portfolio for Whistler waiting it’s turn. He’ll go along with the time period Miss A and Mr. E are studying.

Plutarch: We’ll finish reading about Philopoemen.

Also prayer, hymns and grammar – and maybe we’ll get back to manners as well.
