Wednesdays with Words: What’s in a Name?

So, what’s the story behind my new blog name? Well, I first saw the poem quoted by Cindy Rollins on her blog, and it stuck in my mind. When considering names, I just kept coming back to that phrase as expressing what I’ve been learning over the past eight or so years of homeschooling. It’s consistency in all those “little” things – math, memory work, habit training, whatever – that adds up to something big over time. It’s those hugs and bedtime stories and discussions (with all their rabbit-trails) that show our kids we care and help them see learning as a natural part of life. It often doesn’t look very promising in the moment, when they are complaining (again) about doing Morning Time or whatever else it is. But keep at it with God’s help, and the fruit will come. Here’s another quote with a similar idea which I came across at Simplified Organization:

Too often, I am that “spasmodic Hercules” with grand plans but no follow-through. Keeping it simple and being consistent will have better results, both in my own life and as I train and teach my children.

  1. I love it! What a great new blog home! Congratulations!

And I do love that concept of consistency even when I fail at its execution.

  2. We can all do a little but most of us don’t think it matters that much at the time. It’s a great little poem & such a good name for a blog!
