Seven Quick Takes: Lots of Links

Seven Quick Takes

I’ve been in a bit of a blogging slump, but I have enjoyed some great reading and listening lately, and thought I would share some of it here.

Mystie and Kari’s Bullet Jounaling Workshop has inspired me to get back to using my own bullet journal, and to be more creative with it. I also loved her big wall calendar – need to get myself one of those!

I came across Money-Saving Mom’s article 5 Things You Should Do Every Single Day – Even When Life is Stressful on Pinterest last week. Sometimes these kind of posts bug me (because everyone’s different and all), but I thought this one was quite good. I don’t usually do all of these every day, but even if I only do 3 or 4 things seem less chaotic. And I’m thankful my Mom drilled #2 into me as a kid. 😉

There’s a set of the old My Bookhouse books sitting on the shelf, waiting for me to figure out how to use them. So I was excited to see The Ultimate Guide to My Bookhouse for Homeschoolers, which has lots of great ideas for incorporating them into our studies and reading time.

Circe’s podcast The Mason Jar with Cindy Rollins has had some great guest interviews over the last several months. In the latest one, Cindy talks with Anne White about her story, literature and character, and Plutarch, among other things. I think I need a re-listen, though, as I’ve discovered online shopping is too distracting while listening to a podcast – I’ll have to stick to folding laundry or cooking dinner. 😉

Speaking of Anne White and Plutarch, my friend Dawn had some convicting thoughts about things we see as “impossible”, inspired by Anne’s book The Plutarch Primer. I know there have been many things that have seemed impossible to me, but God has brought me through. And many others (like homeschooling highschool!) seem impossible, but that’s because I’m looking at myself, not God!

Next week is collection week for Operation Christmas Child. If you are looking for ideas, I thought this post from a missionary who has had first-hand experience handing out the boxes and seeing children’s reactions was very helpful.

I shared this one on Facebook, but it was so good: How Making Time for Books Made Me Feel Less Busy. And yes, I see the irony of sharing this in a post of links like this. 😉 There’s so much helpful, good stuff out there – but also tons of distracting, unnecessary and just plain bad stuff. And I know even spending too much time reading the good stuff online makes it harder to settle down and read a book. So this article was a great reminder. 🙂
