Spring & Summer 2019 Morning Time Plans

Morning Time is off to a slow start this term, what with necessary appointments last week and the homeschool convention later this week. But we do it when we can, and hopefully will be able to be more consistent soon.

Hymns & Prayer: We currently following AmblesideOnline’s hymn schedule, as that is what our homeschool co-op choir is doing, but I may do a couple of different ones over the summer. We were happy to get some updated missionary prayer cards recently, to help us better pray for them. 🙂

Bible & Catechism: We’ll continue to read Essential Truths of the Christian Faith and the suggested Scripture passages. Psalm 111 is our new passage to memorize, and we’ll also work on the Westminster Shorter Catechism.

Poetry: George Herbert is our poet this term. I “fell in love” with The Elixir and decided we’d learn it together, and a copy of The Temple has been ordered. We read Easter Wings yesterday  – Mr. E thought it looked like two TIE Fighters. 😉

Music Appreciation: Year of Wonder inspired me to make George Gershwin our composer this term, and we started a short bio of him today. And of course, our Bernstein concerts – yesterday we were enthralled by a stunning performance of Liszt’s first piano concerto by a young Andre Watts, mentioned in this article.

Geography: We continue to read and pray through Window on the World. <3

Shakespeare: The older two boys and I are reading/listening to Julius Caesar (Miss A read it herself along with Brightest Heaven of Invention). We’ll start memorizing Friends, Romans, Countrymen together soon. 😉

Picture Study: Reubens is our artist this term, since I had his Picture Study Portfolio waiting and he fits approximately with Mr. D’s current period of history.

Plutarch: I’m hoping we can finish Cicero this term, but we’re only up to the third lesson… :/

Picture Books: We didn’t finish last term’s list – several of our Fridays didn’t go according to plan – so we’ll read Whitefoot and then decide what to do next.
